Square Benny Condominiums hybrides Quartier Monkland

Environmental

Square Benny targets a significant reduction in the resources required for its construction and occupancy.  To this end, it incorporates a number of measures that serve to attenuate the ecological impact of the project.

  • Recovery and reuse of materials, including brick, concrete and wood from the original buildings
  • Reflective roof coverings reducing the impact of heat
  • Selection of construction materials that limit the consumption of natural resources
  • Selection of materials and finishes that reduce polluting emissions within housing units
  • Installation of showers and faucets that reduce water consumption
  • Energy-efficient building envelope that reduces energy consumption and heating costs
  • Selection of indigenous vegetation to reduce irrigation and maintenance requirements.

Square Benny subscribes to the emerging movement of ecological construction, which currently influences Quebec construction practices. As a result, Square Benny is perfectly consistent with efforts throughout the Benny Farm site, which earned the project third place at the international Holcim Awards competition, which recognizes construction projects that have distinguished themselves in the area of sustainable development.
